A Real Vacation

I am enjoying my vacation! totally so! Even though it rained two afternoons and it was cloudy weather today, I didn't mind. Do you wonder what I did these days?
Well, not much, to be honest.
I sleep (long nights and siestas in the afternoon), I eat, I talk to people, I read, I take long walks in the morning. Not much else. I feel wonderful. I needed to catch up on my sleep apparently! And my head is somehow ... empty. Wonderful.
Tomorrow is my last day at the beach. I hope that the weather is gonna be fine and I look forward to enjoying the sun one more time (working on my sun tan, obviously!).
On Tuesday I travel back and you'll hear from me once I am back in my everyday life :-)

PS: I got lucky on Saturday while shopping in the mercato! I bought some really nice blouses, a dress (that I will wear like a blouse with my leggings beneath it), a gray bag, some scarfs and cool gifts for my nephews / my niece!

Stresa / Isole Borromee

I was finally able to download the pictures I have taken in Stresa. I will have to sort them once I am back home but I wanted to share some with you straightaway. You'll see mostly cloudy skies ... we weren't lucky weatherwise or maybe I should say we were lucky because it actually never rained (except when we were having dinner and during the night). We had blue skies and hot temperatures on our arrival on Saturday but for the rest of our stay ... it was mostly cloudy skies but as I said: NO rain ... I am grateful for that :-)
It's a wonderful place. The lake. The mountains. The gardens. The flowers.

The light made the mountains look like they were dyed in different colors.

on Monday we went to the "Mottarone" - with the funicular. A wonderful view, don't you think? Imagine what it would have been like if the weather would have been clear... But it was breathtanking anyway

Cattolica

I've made it to the beach! It's wonderful to be here again. I had forgotten what it meant to return to a place where you know ... everything. It may not be fascinating or exciting, like when you're visiting places you don't know, but here, a place I've know for many years now, the relaxing part is immediate. That what is wonderful!
I arrived at the train station.
Walked the streets to the hotel which is owned by friends of mine.
Greeted everybody and feeling like I had left yesterday.
Took the elevator to the third floor and from there walked two stairs to the attic where "my" room is.
Unpacked my luggage, put on my bathing suit and not 10 minutes after I was at the beach.

Familiar.
Good.
Predictable.
Wonderful.

I've neglected this blog since I left home last Saturday - and am sorry about it! My days in Stresa were quite filled and since I have arrived here... I have been sleeping a lot. I am tired. I hadn't realized how tired I was. Today, we had a thunderstorm in the afternoon and I didn't even mind. I simply stayed in my room, slept the afternoon away and then read my book. I feel good :-)

Stresa

I have arrived in Stresa and I am already leaving again. Sorry, no time to post anything (our days are pretty full) and in addition I am unable to download my pictures to my travel computer. No idea what happened.
Tomorrow I am traveling to Cattolica and will try the whole download thing again.
Let me just say: We had a great time. The weather was not as perfect as I'd wished it'd be but at least it never rained and it's still warm / very warm.
More news to come!

Finally

Finally, I am ready to travel again. And this time it's gonna be about traveling (e.g. visiting the Isole Borromee) and also about a simple vacation (lying on the beach in Cattolica).

BON VOYAGE ... and I keep in touch :-)

The Other's World

You may have been wondering why I haven't posted any interviews on "The Other's World" for the last couple of months.
Well, it's because I wasn't sure if I really wanted to continue the interviews and also because I felt like I was running out of ideas.
Luckily the ideas got back to me and I remembered as well how those interviews made me feel.
Good actually. Getting to meet people. Asking them questions. Listening to what they have to say. Sharing their answers with you.
Therefore, I am happy to announce that the "Other's World" is to be continued...

I had three ideas of possible interviews, the first one having taken place yesterday evening.
N., a friend of mine, who I got to know at least 10/15 years back when we were co-workers at a bank (we even traveled to New York City together!). I remember her starting an education in Chinese Medecine (or something like that) but we lost contact in the meantime. Facebook (what else?) made us re-connect and when she told me that she was an acupuncturist now ... I had to interview her!
It was interesting and fascinating. You'll read her answers ... as soon as I will have written her words down (first, I am off on a vacation...). I am happy though to be in the "interview feeling" again!

Our World ... is Sage

Lesson Learned: Do Not Impose Yourself On Anybody...

... even if you mean well. I've learned a lesson lately. I am not to impose on anybody.

You must know, (oh is it mortifying), that I hate it when other people try to impose ANYTHING on me. ANYTHING. I get really unpleasant when they do. And what do I do in return? I sometimes impose myself on others. I realise that now - even if it's mortifying. I mean well, you know. But sometimes enthusiasm makes me kind of forget about ... what others want or that others do not necessarily want what I want or think what I think or see it the way I see it.

Let me tell you the story.
I have an uncle who has leukaemia. He is doing well (more or less) but the chemotherapy is hard on him. He won't be able to spend his annual summer vacation in Italy. Again. Third year in a row. He is not up to driving 7 hours by himself - my aunt hasn't got a driver's license. No going to the beach (he loves it!). No seeing the sea. No meeting his sisters and brothers. It's hard on him.
So I suggested, as I am going to Italy next Saturday anyway, to drive him and his wife to Italy and than a week later back home again. No trouble for me as I am going anyway. And I really know how much he misses the beach - he told me so several times this winter!

Then the whole mess started. Me telling him about my idea in the first place. Re-calling him explaing a second time. Him needing time to think and asking me to call back in a few days. Me calling back, talking to my aunt who explained how sorry she was (sorry for what? I mean I AM GOING anyway) that they couldn't make it. My uncle calling my mum (they are siblings) explaining WHY he didn't feel like doing this trip. And finally - like the icing on the cake - my father urging me not to put too much pressure on him, he being sick and all that.
Oh well. Had I just kept my mouth shut. I meant good. But I simply should have ... shut up! I thought it was a good idea but I didn't realise how unfit he is. Not up to traveling at all. Add to the whole mess that he is a person who can't take decisions - he couldn't when he was healthy much less today.

Well, to cut a long story short. I am going to Italy by train. They are staying here.
Me, in the future, I am gonna to listen carefully, then think even more carefully, then sleep over it and only then speak!

Summer ... Thunderstorms

Thunderstorms are kind of frightening. Summer thunderstorms particularly so. Frightening and fascinating at the same time. I love them (as long as the sun comes back the next day).
Yesterday evening we had a really heavy thunderstorm.
I have rarely seen as many flashs of lightening followed by growling thunder right after.
It felt like the sky wanted to tell us something (thunder being the voice!) (excuse my imagination!).
I was looking out of one window, in awe by the spectacular show nature was offering us. All my other windows were open as well and I was enjoying the fresh air! Suddenly I heard a awful noise / crash coming from the hallway. I ran towards the noise and there it was: my mirror in thousand pieces! My 2 m / 30 cm mirror that was leaning against the wall. In thousand pieces? How could that have happened? I supposed it was a draught that made my mirror "fall". Nothing else got broken luckily and no damage to anything else either. Imagine how strong the draught must have been! Crazy.

Summer ... on my Balcony

Summer ... Brain

Summer has arrived. The whole wonderful glory of it. We had temperatures of over 30°C which is quite the jump from some "frosty" 10/15°C we had week before last. But, hey, I am not complaining :-)

Just one disadvantage though. When the air outside gets as hot as these days ... my brain goes ... blank. More so. It gets tired. It gets slow. During these first summer days (I get used to it with time) I wonder how the hell they are doing it in hotter climates. How can they do office work when it's 40 or more outside? How the hell can they concentrate (I barely can, honestly!!). Well, they may have air conditioning but anyway.

That is why you haven't read anything from me these days. As soon as thoughts about a new post came up ... I got tired hahahaha
It will get better, I promise.

In spite of these tropical temperatures ... I am totally excited about the fact that in one week I will ... pack my suitcase!
Yeeesssss! I am leaving for Stresa and Cattolica next Saturday. Can't wait.
I am ready to travel again. Not only mentally but also outfit-wise (I have found the perfect swimsuits which is not obvious with my kind of figure - just believe me!) and hair-wise (it's shorter now because short means easier to handle on the beach).

Have a wonderful happy summer, y'all!

A Little Foretaste Of My Next Trip: Stresa

Last Monday, while driving back from Milano (by train), I came by Stresa. I thought that giving you a little foretaste of my next trip would be nice, wouldn't it? The pictures were taken from the (rolling) train, by the way. PS: I can't wait to visit the three islands in front of Stresa - that is why I actually wanna go there - to visit these islands (their gardens and their magnificent buildings!).

Our Ocean

If you could make time to watch this movie ... do it! It's interesting and illuminating. And sad. All at the same time.
